This week's lone new release for WiiWare is interesting for the timing of its release if nothing else. The Mystery of Whiterock Castle first arrived in Europe a whole year and a half ago, and now that it's finally come to America it's within a week of stepping on the toes of a competing first-party Nintendo product.

That product is next week's Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident, which, like Whiterock here, will also be a "hidden object" visual puzzle game. We've seen a couple of these on WiiWare before – they're games that basically just make you sit and stare unblinkingly at your TV screen for minutes at a time, trying to pick random objects out of a cluttered assortment of other oddities only meant to distract you.

Like the old Where's Waldo? books.

Whiterock's version of the design is OK, but I wouldn't recommend it if you'd only be playing alone. The real value here is the cooperative two-player mode – since the game's storyline is a kid-focused tale of finding a lost princess, parents with young sons or daughters could pass a second Wiimote to their kiddo and have some bonding time clicking around the screen at hidden teddy bears.
