Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is the first in a series of downloadable content (DLC) add-ons for Borderlands, which was announced on October 15, 2009, and released November 24, 2009 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The PC version was released on December 9.

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned begins with an introduction from Marcus Kincaid in the form of a story being told to a small child. The child interrupts him with questions, and drawings, as he tries to recite this tale. It can be speculated that Marcus is telling the story to the same person as in the introduction of Borderlands, but the child remained quiet in that earlier introduction.

Brave players who seek zombie carnage will be tasked with keeping the remaining workers of Jakobs Cove alive. Dr. Ned (who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise) does his job a little too well, creating zombies and other abominations that now run rampant in this region. Players will have to work alongside Dr. Ned as they embark on a quest to cure the inhabitants of Jakobs Cove in this full-fledged expansion filled with new enemies, new quests and rare loot drops.

Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot is the second downloadable content pack for Borderlands. The DLC was released for the Xbox 360 on 29 December 2009 and for the PS3 and PC on 7 January 2010.

Mad Moxxi is a thrill-seeking woman in search of a new husband. Having gone through three husbands already, her search has led her to becoming the Ring Master/Hostess and Commentator of the Underdome. She considers the Underdome and the excitement of the competition like matrimony and plans to stay only as long as the thrill lasts. Gameplay includes three new Riot Mode arenas where players will fight AI-controlled enemies (PvE) in single player or multiplayer. The add-on starts with a mission titled "Prove Yourself." in which players complete all three arenas. However, this is the only DLC that doesn't contain a full plot with side missions and multiple plot missions. But it does however contain an unlimited amount of re-playable activity including the three arenas achieved after successfuly completing the "Prove Yourself" mission that contain 20 rounds of 5 waves instead of the 5 rounds of 5 waves.

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is the third in the series of downloadable content packs for Borderlands. Gearbox Software first announced it on January 21, 2010, stating that it would be "the largest DLC for Borderlands to date" and would provide "new challenges and opportunities for growth for characters from around level 34 to level 50." It was released for Xbox 360 on February 23rd and for PC and PS3 on February 25th.

To combat second hand sales of used munitions among greedy, haggling treasure hunters on Pandora, the Hyperion Corporation have decided to activate the Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap. Instead, it has organized all of the claptraps into a revolution, and they’ve been assimilating all life on Pandora and converting them into claptraps. With our heroes caught in the middle, they must stop the Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap in order to release his control over all of Pandora’s claptraps and collect their reward, of course.
