<DIV>      As someone who is tired of the fact that every other game in development seems to be a shooter, Stacking is a breath of fresh air. An adventure puzzler (which means you go on an adventure and solve puzzles along the way) unlike any other game on the market, this game is oozing with charm. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise as Double Fine has formed some of the most unique gaming experiences available including Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, Costume Quest and now, Stacking. Wrapped in a fantastical diorama setting with silent movie-style cutscenes, Stacking actually tells a rather depressing tale of child labor. The entire nesting doll family of Blackmores, save the mama doll, has been forced into slavery. It's up to the littlest one of the bunch, Charlie, to save not only his family, but the entire underage workforce from the evil Baron. Although the subject matter is slightly heavy, it's presented in a comedic manner – witty dialogue and goofy animations amplify the fact that this game is not actually socialist propaganda. After receiving an objective, you'll wander around talking to other folks for hints and eventually develop solutions to the problem at hand. Although every doll in Stacking has some sort of ability, some are more important than others. Special dolls with unique skills are signified by a glossy polish (not the easiest way to discern them) and are the key to getting 100-percent game completion. Distinctive dolls can be part of nesting families or just add to your collection, but their most important use is to solve puzzles. How do you gain access to their awesome powers? By hopping into and possessing their bodies, of course. The concept sounds odd, but it is surprisingly satisfying to pop in and out of a variety of dolls. The trick with Stacking is that you can only hop into a doll that is exactly one size larger than Charlie – so you can't go directly into a heavyweight boxer doll, you'll need to find others stack into first until you're around his size. Puzzles range from simple (like using a sexy doll to distract a guard) to absurd and complex (like using a violin player to convince the Pied Piper to get off his perch and in turn using him to lure rats to a pharaoh made of cheese). No, I didn't make that up, the game is just that delightfully wacky. Progressing through the game can be easy as you only need one correct answer to move forward, but I found myself eager to uncover all the ways to fix the many problems found in Stacking. Each dilemma you encounter has an around four solutions to come up with and some of the harder ones will take time to figure out. Unless you're attempting the harder challenges, you probably won't get stuck, but just in case, there's a hint system present. Unfortunately, it is rather easy to abuse as the only barrier is a short cool down period. I indulged my curiosity more than once and I sort of wish I hadn't -- but that's my own lack of willpower at fault, not the game. When you look around the environments through Charlie's eyes, it's really quite impressive. The world is vibrant and manages to feel alive even though it's only comprised of mobile inanimate objects. Though dolls typically stick to the script and wander around the same areas, they react genuinely to the things you do. So, when you're trying to complete some "Hi-Jinks," or random goofy challenges available in every level, and have slapped a boxing doll with your White Glove Slap, you'll get a "thanks" in the form of an uppercut. CLOSING COMMENTS: Stacking is chock full of charm, humor, and fun puzzles. Though some of the solutions are really easy, if you avoid the hint system it’ll take some time to decipher some of the harder ones. If all you want to do is run through the story without trying other solutions, performing Hi-Jinks or collecting dolls, Stacking may not be the best $15 investment. However, it’s hard not to get sucked into this colorful world, so if you can appreciate the style of humor Stacking has to offer, you’ll enjoy this game immensely. </DIV>
